Today, there was so much rain that it flooded the streets... in parts it was thigh-deep (Dad's thighs, not mine ;-). It was really fun to watch out the window, as the footpath merged with the road in one enormous puddle. However, Dad (who attempted twice to get to work... once on his motorbike and once on foot) said that on some streets, the puddles turned into big torrents and waves! Mrs Hien came to help us (to Dad and Mum's astonishment... how's that for dedication to the job?) arriving several hours late after her motorbike engine got flooded in the high waters. She pushed her bike the rest of the way, passing some fish as she went!!

In other news, a new fridge has arrived in our apartment today, as the old one freezes the lettuce but doesn't cool my milk properly. There's this whopping great sticker on the front, advertising the fridge. It is stuck on with very strong glue. The men who helped to carry it into the apartment were very surprised that we didn't want the sticker, as in this country you
definitely leave the pretty stickers on there :-)
Keep the news coming. In so many ways I am reliving the experiences we had with young children in Thailand 30 years ago!!!
ReplyDeleteI am SO surprised you don't want the nice pictures on the front of the fridge. The next question is what would you rather have the nice advertising or the sticky glue patch that just won't come off, and you will only know that fact when you start to demolish the pretty pictures. I suggest you have another picture ready to put on the sticky glue patch if needed!!!!
Em, ask your Dad if he remembers the fish and the snake we had at our front door when our house was flooded in Bangkok. Ask him if he also remembers how precarious it is to have your piano up on 4 bricks as the water kept rising and then the exorbitant price we were charged to get the piano up the stairs to the second level when the workers figured we really did have a problem and asked, how much do you value your piano!!!
ReplyDeleteHey! Grandpa, how did you know about the sticky glue mark? It just won't come off!!!! I'll take a piccie and post it so you can see. Righto... I will ask Dad. I'll ask him to tell me the story of the flood that he had when he was a boy! Thanks for your sms from Kupang... :-)
